Know how to play beach soccer and understand the rules with this simplified version of the Laws of the game. Learn the essential rules and regulations to get started.
1: PITCH
- Sand surface (at least 40cm deep).
- 35-37 m long, 26-28 m wide.
- Marked with GeoTextile lines (10cm wide).
- Goals are 2.2 m high, 5.5 m wide.
- Penalty area is identified by yellow flags at the sidelines (9m from the goal line).
2: BALL
- Lighter than traditional football (400-440 grams).
- Circumference: 68-70 centimeters.
- Pumped up to 0.4-0.6atm at sea level.
3: PLAYING TIME
- 3 periods of 12 minutes each.
- 3-minute breaks between periods.
- The game clock is paused for goals, fouls, and injuries.
4: PLAYERS
- 5 players on the pitch (1 goalkeeper, 4 outfield).
- 7 substitutes.
- Unlimited substitutions during open play.
- Tactical substitutions are crucial.
5: MATCH RESULTS
- No draws allowed.
- 3-minute extra time if scores are tied.
- Penalty kicks if still tied (5 shots each, then sudden death).
6: MATCH OFFICIALS
- 2 Referees with full authority.
- 3rd Referee, 4th Referee and Timekeeper.
- Players can be replaced after 2 minutes if sent off (except if the team concede a goal, then the team can replace the sent-off player before 2mins expires).
7: DISCIPLINARY ACTION
- No limit to fouls a player can commit.
- Players cannot form a wall for free-kicks.
- Specific rules for free-kicks and throw-ins/kick-ins.
8: OTHER IMPORTANT RULES
- No offside rule.
- No scoring directly from the kick-off.
- Throw-ins/kick-ins can be taken with hands or foot.
