Thrilling Round Two of the 2025 Nigeria Beach Soccer League Held in Nnewi

Kebbi Fishers, Kada BSC Shine, and Hosts Anambra BSW Thrill Home Fans.

The Moonshine Arena at Nnewi High School, Anambra State, came alive from Thursday to Saturday, August 21–23, 2025, as Round Two of the Nigeria Beach Soccer League (NBSL) delivered electrifying action, showcasing the skill, passion, and competitive spirit of Nigeria’s top beach soccer clubs. With defending champions Kebbi Fishers BSC extending their unbeaten streak, host team Anambra Beach Soccer Warriors battling fiercely on home sand, and standout performances from players like Dozie Frank and Taiwo Adams, the weekend was packed with memorable moments.

The tournament kicked off on Thursday with an opening ceremony led by Prof Victor Madubuko, Chairman of the Anambra Beach Soccer Association. Welcoming teams, fans, and officials to Nnewi, Prof Madubuko expressed pride in hosting the event and acknowledged the contributions of the NBSL Coordinator and board members. His speech set the tone for a weekend of intense competition and camaraderie. Later, Prof Madubuko was honoured with an award for his outstanding contributions to beach soccer in Nigeria and beyond, recognising his visionary leadership, commitment to youth development, and transformative impact on the sport.

Kebbi Fishers’ Dramatic Penalty Triumph

The opening match saw defending champions Kebbi Fishers BSC face off against the hosts, Anambra Beach Soccer Warriors, in a pulsating encounter. The game ended in a 4-4 draw after three periods and extra time, with both sides showcasing attacking prowess. The match went to penalties, where Kebbi Fishers held their nerve to secure a 6-5 victory, extending their unbeaten run to four games. Anambra BSW, Stanley Ekwo scored a brace, while goalkeeper Chibuike Mbaraogu and Kennedy Obinna each added a goal. Kebbi Fishers responded with goals from Taiwo Adams, Hassan Muhammad, Ekene Obi, and Hassan Abdullahi.

In other matches of the opening day, Jigawa Golden Star BSC dominated Kebbi United BSC with a 3-0 win, while Ibom BSC mirrored the scoreline against Nmanko Patigi BSC. Kada BSC also asserted their authority with a 3-0 victory over Niger BSC. Before the matches, a goalkeeper challenge saw six of the eight goalies advance to the next phase, adding an extra layer of excitement to the day.

Kada and Kebbi Fishers Dominate

Day two action saw Kebbi Fishers BSC continue their winning streak with a commanding 5-1 victory over Ibom BSC. After a goalless first period, Hassan Muhammad broke the deadlock in the second, followed by a brace from Taiwo Adams, who earned the man-of-the-match award for his stellar performance. Muhammad added another goal, and Monday Joseph sealed the rout, with Uwana Aniete’s late strike serving as a consolation for Ibom BSC.

Anambra Beach Soccer Warriors delighted home fans with a 3-0 win over Nmanko Patigi BSC, while Jigawa Golden Star BSC and Kada BSC continued their strong form, each securing 3-0 victories over Niger BSC and Kebbi United BSC, respectively. The day’s results underscored the competitive balance and high stakes.

Kada BSC and Anambra BSW Shine

The final day of Round Two brought more thrilling encounters. Kada BSC, the 2022 champions, delivered the performance of the weekend, thrashing Jigawa Golden Star BSC 7-1. Dozie Frank, voted man of the match, led the charge with four goals, supported by single strikes from James Mamman, Victor Tale, and Ebuka James. The result kept Kada BSC’s unbeaten record intact and solidified their status as title contenders.

Anambra Beach Soccer Warriors continued to impress on home soil, defeating Ibom BSC 4-2. Chinedu Ichoku, Peter Prosper, Austine Eze, and Momo Miracle each scored, with Miracle earning man-of-the-match honors. Uwana Aniete and Effiong Eyo scored for Ibom BSC, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the hosts’ attacking flair. Meanwhile, Kebbi Fishers BSC capped the round with a 3-0 win over Nmanko Patigi BSC, maintaining their perfect record.

Round Two of the 2025 NBSL showcased the growing quality and excitement of beach soccer in Nigeria.
