Beach Soccer Makes Waves in Liberia, a Promising Future for the Sport
Liberia, a country known for its love of football, has embarked on a new sporting adventure with the launch of its first-ever Beach Soccer League. After years of anticipation and several unsuccessful attempts, the Liberia Football Association (LFA) finally realized its dream in February 2022. With major sponsorship and the unwavering commitment of dedicated individuals, beach soccer has quickly become a sensation, capturing the hearts of football enthusiasts across the nation.
The Inaugural Season: Under the leadership of Mustafa I. Raji, the LFA President, the first official Beach Soccer League kicked off amidst great anticipation. Though financial support initially posed a challenge, the league found a lifeline through significant sponsorship from Orange Liberia, who stepped in as the title sponsor. Others include Conex Petroleum, HottFm, and HottTv gave their support, and the relentless efforts of the Co-Chair of the Beach Soccer & Futsal Committee, Gbanja Scott (Cypha D’King). With these partnerships, the inaugural season witnessed six teams competing fiercely for the coveted title of the maiden Beach Soccer Champions of Liberia.
After a thrilling season filled with intense matches, Sinkor BSC emerged as the winners, capping off their remarkable journey with an undefeated season. The team’s success not only brought glory to Sinkor but also served as a testament to the determination and skill of the beach soccer athletes in Liberia. The achievement marked a significant milestone in the sport’s development, igniting enthusiasm among players, fans, and the LFA alike.
Recognition and Support: The outstanding efforts of the Beach Soccer & Futsal Committee did not go unnoticed. At the recently concluded 27th Ordinary Congress, held at the newly constructed LFA Headquarters, the committee was granted voting rights for the first time in history. This historic decision signifies a major step forward for beach soccer in Liberia and promises increased attention and support for future leagues. With the financial and moral backing of the LFA, the committee is optimistic about the continued growth and success of the sport.
