In this exclusive interview, Ali shares her inspiring story, challenges, and vision for beach soccer’s future. From her early days playing soccer in Chicago to becoming a voice for women’s beach soccer, Ali’s passion and dedication continue to drive change and inspire a new generation of players.

BSmag: Can you tell us a bit about your background and what drew you to beach soccer?

  • Hi, I’m Ali Hall. Growing up in Chicagoland, I fell in love with soccer. After moving to California, I discovered beach soccer and was hooked. I love its unique techniques, stunning beach stadiums, and infectious energy. After a lifetime of playing on grass, the sand introduced new challenges and playing styles that fascinated me. I love the joy, goals, excitement, and positivity that define beach soccer, unlocking aspects of a player’s game that often remain hidden in traditional 11v11 soccer.

You were a player for the University of Tennessee’s Lady Vols, how did this experience influenced your development as a player, as well as your current work with Girls Unite Soccer Club?

  • Playing for the University of Tennessee’s Lady Vols definitely had a profound impact on my development as a player. Coaches Ange Kelly and Brian Pensky were instrumental in shaping me mentally and physically into the soccer player I am today. Their leadership and guidance had a lasting impact on my growth. This foundation has enabled me to give back to the next generation of female players through my work with Girls Unite Soccer Club in San Francisco. The club’s mission resonates deeply with me, empowering female leadership and providing positive role models for young girls, where I’ve witnessed firsthand the transformative power of soccer in building confidence, teamwork, and resilience. It’s rewarding to see our club growing and making a meaningful difference in the lives of these young athletes.

How do you balance work, playing for the national team, and club soccer?

  • The balance of work, playing beach national team, playing with the club, it’s tough. It really is a tough thing because we don’t get paid to play. So, you know, a lot of our work is invested in going to these tournaments and playing, and sometimes we have to miss work. And, thankfully, I have very supportive staff and where I work, who support the game, and they’re supporting what we’re trying to accomplish.

What’s your take on the current state and future of beach soccer?

  • I see beach soccer growing at a massive level and massive speed, and it is right now. Globally, we have a lot of teams in Europe, very high level, very talented, and Central South America, also in America. And interesting activities developing both in Africa and Asia. We just need more support to grow the sport, we need the game to be seen, people to watch. And, obviously, it’ll help if we can get to that level of having a women’s World Cup, but I see this game just growing exponentially.

We see you on social media actively pushing for a women’s Beach Soccer World Cup?

  • Yes! I’m actively pushing for a women’s World Cup because it’s time to showcase the incredible talent and dedication of thousands of female beach soccer players worldwide. With a men’s World Cup already established, it’s only fair that women have the same opportunity. The tremendous support from Beach Soccer Worldwide, fellow female players across the globe has been instrumental in fuelling this movement. It’s time for a women’s beach soccer World Cup.

What progress have you made, and how can people support your efforts?

  • We’re encouraged by FIFA’s active consideration and plans for a women’s World Cup, as well as the potential inclusion of beach soccer in the Olympics. These developments demonstrate significant momentum towards recognising the sport’s global growth and women’s contributions. To further support our efforts, people can continue to spread awareness through social media and follow players, teams, and Beach Soccer Worldwide for updates. Its always valuable to continue to engage with the beach soccer community and to build momentum and attracts essential supports.

How does participating in beach soccer impact the lives of female athletes?

  • I believe beach soccer is another way to empower females because it’s giving another outlet for the little ladies to go and play for their country, highlights different skill sets, and to play the game in just a different but unique way. It’s giving another opportunity, and I believe it’s going to be massive, especially when we finally get the World Cup going.

What advice would you give to young female athletes to make a difference in their communities?

  • Be brave, take the leap, and dive into things that you love. As an athlete, you already possess the courage and determination to make a difference. Now, apply that same energy to your community. Use your passion as a tool to help others, inspire positive change. Remember, your unique perspective and talents can create lasting change.

How do you stay motivated and focused on your goals?

  • It can be hard sometimes. It can be hard because it doesn’t always feel like there’s a ton of support, but my teammates keep me going. They are my family, and we all have our ups and downs. And without them and the way that they push and the way that they work hard on and off the sand is absolutely incredible. These keeps me focused.

What footprints do you hope to leave in the sands, your legacy?

  • The footprints that I’d like to leave in this game is just being an advocate for the women’s game in general. I want to help create these pathways for the future. And, you know, me along with all my teammates are part of the history of beach soccer in the US, and all the ladies that are working at different clubs in the US are all part of these efforts. And, you know, we also working hard with my club, Cali Beach Soccer Club, now a non profit organisation working to empower others to look beyond what seems impossible. Generally I want to be part of something bigger than myself.

You’ve are making quite a tremendous impact in your career, has your family been supportive?

  • I wouldn’t be anywhere without my family, my dad Hilton, my mom Karin, and my sister Lauren. They’ve been my rock, supporting me every step of the way. From early morning training sessions to traveling for tournaments, they’ve been there to encourage me, offer advice, and celebrate my victories. Their unwavering encouragement and love have given me the strength to pursue my dreams and make a difference in the world of beach soccer. They’ve made sacrifices to help me achieve my goals, and I’m forever grateful for their presence in my life.
