Fiji FA plans big for beach soccer

Fiji Football Association has plans to strengthen beach football and hopefully host a league involving district teams.

The governing football body in the country hosted an invitational tournament last weekend at the National Beach Centre in Suva involving eight teams from the Northland Tailevu.

FFA competitions manager Amitesh Pal said this was their fourth tournament since last year (2021).

“We started in February last year and was supposed to have it on a monthly basis, but due to COVID restrictions we couldn’t continue the competition,”
“Now we are on par with our monthly schedule. This week we had an invitational tournament where we invited the futsal and regional clubs of Northland Tailevu.
“Teams were set up to come and try this, as we are still introducing this sport. And once everything is OK from next year we plan to have a league for beach soccer, maybe we will have one tournament in Labasa, Savusavau, Ba and in Suva.”

Pal concluded by saying they were also working to have the facilities since the only available one was in Suva. With new facilities coming up in Ba academy and the Labasa academy, it’s a big step for beach soccer in Fiji. Hopefully, we would see Fiji take part in a FIFA-sanctioned beach soccer competition.
